Crossbones sails into Germany, China

Broadcasters and subscription VoD (SVoD) services from Germany, China and the Middle East are amongst those to have acquired NBC pirate drama Crossbones from distributor Sierra/Engine TV.

The action-adventure series, set in 1715 and starring Hollywood actor John Malkovich as the infamous pirate Blackbeard, is produced by Parkes/MacDonald Productions and Universal Television. Sierra/Engine launched the show at MipTV in April.

It has now been picked up by Tele München Gruppe (TMG) in Germany, Turner International and Polar Star in Latin America, Icon in Australia and Sky in New Zealand.

Chinese VoD platform Sohu, Tohokushinsha in Japan, SBS Broadcasting and Dutch Filmworks in Benelux and Skai TV in Greece will also air the series.

MTG in Scandinavia, Yes DBS Satellite Services in Israel, MNET in Africa, Digiturk in Turkey, Zon Lusomundo in Portugal, Icflix in The Middle East, VMMA in Belgium, Telemundo in Puerto Rico and Daro in Central Eastern Europe are also on board.

Crossbones is from Luther creator Neil Cross and is based on the book by Colin Woodard. Executive producers are Cross, Walter F Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Gladiator, Men in Black), Ted Gold (Three Rivers) and Ciaran Donnelly (Vikings, The Tudors).
