Cromosoma unveils Motel Spaghetti & Triplets movie

For the first time, Spanish toon studio Cromosoma will be exhibiting at DISCOP in Budapest this month, armed with a raft of new projects including the 13×26' animation Motel Spaghetti and a Triplets feature film.

Motel Spaghetti is currently at the pilot stage and is aimed at young adults. It revolves around {a heterogeneous group of 21st century WAP generation 20-somethings, lost in the chaotic process of finding their feet in a world of personal relationships,{ according to Cromosoma's Ruben Gil.

It follows two slackers, Tristan and Lucas, whose main concerns are to do the bare minimum and to get famous. The pilot will be screened at Cartoon Forum this September.

In that same month, Cromosoma will begin work on Tom, a co-production between the European Broadcasting Union, Cromosoma and Norma Editorial. The 26×26' show follows the adventures of a gigantic, friendly dinosaur.

{For the first time in history,{ said Gil about the Tom project, {TV channels like the BBC, Rai, France3, ZDF and RTVE have decided to invest in a Spanish animated production at the same time.{

Following the recent sale of Cromosoma's The Triplets (65×30') to US Hispanic network Telemundo, the Spanish toon house has greenlit The New Adventures of The Triplets (39×30') as well as a feature film based on the Triplets characters.

Gil also reports sales of one of Cromosoma's wholly-owned toons, Juanito Jones (26×26'), to Nickelodeon (for Lat-Am), The Disney Channel (Italy, France and Spain), and Televisa (Mexico).

{It's the first time The Disney Channel has acquired a Spanish production,{ enthused Gil. The first 13 episodes of the 2D/3D show will be delivered for MIPCOM 2001, with the second 13 due for April 2002.

Another wholly-owned Cromosoma toon, Miniman (26×13'), has been taken by Nickelodeon (for Lat-Am and Scandinavia) and The Disney Channel (Spain). The 2D/3D show will be delivered for MIPCOM 2001.

Daro Films, Cromosoma's distributor for the Middle East, will also be at DISCOP.
