Sony Crackle visits The Butcher with Oldman

Rob Riggle previously worked with Crackle on Dead Rising: Watchtower.

Sony Pictures Television is developing a supernatural crime drama produced by Gary Oldman and a comedy from Rob Riggle for its ad-supported streaming service Sony Crackle.

The service’s general manager Eric Berger announced development of the two series at Sony’s Television Critics Association presentation.

The Butcher is being developed by Oldman and Dougles Urbanski through Flying Studio Pictures. Written by Charles Burmeister, the original series follows a hardened homicide detective on the trail of a serial killer who has discovered the key to immortality through consuming human flesh.

Oldman and Urbanski’s most recent collaboration was feature film Darkest Hour, for which Oldman won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Winston Churchill.

Sony Crackle is also working with Sonar Entertainment and Abominable Pictures on a comedy written by and featuring actor and comedian Riggle.

Rob Riggle’s Jet Ski Academy (8×22’) follows a badly behaved and only slightly fictionalised Riggle and his ill-conceived investment in a jet ski school.

It is Riggle’s second project with the service following 2015 original movie Dead Rising: Watchtower.

Elsewhere, Sony Crackle has acquired the North American rights to comedy horror Office Uprising. The feature film, from Mind the Gap Productions and production, financing and sales company The Exchange is currently in post-production and will be released in the summer.

Office Uprising follows the story of an underachiever working at a weapons manufacturing firm who finds that his co-workers have been “weaponised” by a new energy drink designed for the military.

Finally, Emmy-nominated animated series Supermansion will return for a 6×22’ third season on Thursday April 12, produced once more by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.
