Connolly tours US for ITV

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a three-part documentary series that will see iconic comedian Billy Connolly explore the history of Scottish people in America.

Banijay-owned producer Wonder is working on Billy Connolly’s Great American Trail.

The 3×60’ series will see Connolly travelling off the beaten track in America, following the migratory journey of Scots.

He will begin in Plymouth where the Mayflower pilgrims landed and finish in Nashville, Tennessee.

The show will look at the impact Scots have had on American history through music, football, gangsters, real-life moonshiners and US presidents with Scottish heritage.

Jo Clinton Davis, ITV’s controller of factual, greenlit the series, which is executive produced by Mike Reilly at Wonder. It will be distributed globally by Banijay Rights.
