More formats & factual commissioners join Content London line-up

ABC, ZDF, ITV, BBC and SVT are the latest channels to join the Formats & Factual commissioners strand at Content London.

This year Content London will run three full days of Formats & Factual sessions alongside the Drama strand, consolidating its position as the most vital development marketplace in the global business. Jennifer Collins
Acting director, entertainment and specialist
ABC Australia
Collins is one of Australia’s leading television executives with a career spanning 30 years. Currently ABC’s acting director, entertainment and specialist, Collins returned to the public broadcaster as ABC’s head of factual and culture, after spending 7 years in the independent sector. Five years in her role as head of non-fiction at Screentime, she oversaw a slate of programs that included The Secret Life of 4 year olds, Stop Laughing…this is serious, Anh Do’s Brush with Fame, Todd Sampson’s Life on the Line, Testing Teachers, Making Child Prodigies, Date Night, Undressed, Eat Well for Less, Flying Miners, Outback ER, Felicity’s Mental Mission, How Not To Behave, and RBT. As director of content at Fremantle Collins had responsibility for both scripted and unscripted development and production slates working to all networks. Formerly at ABC TV she was head of entertainment where she oversaw a slate of highly acclaimed programs including Dirty Laundry Live, Adam Hills Tonight, The Chaser Decides, Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery, Mad as Hell, The Agony of Life, Gruen Planet, and Kitchen Cabinet. She commissioned the Digital Emmy award winning series #7 Days Later and created the online comedy initiative Fresh Blood. As ABC TV’s head of factual she was responsible for the development and commissioning of an impressive slate of award winning documentaries.

Thorsten Haas
Deputy SVP entertainment
Haas is deputy SVP entertainment at ZDF since 2012. As head of development, he is also responsible for acquisition, development and commissioning of non-scripted formats in all genres of the department (primetime shows, factual entertainment, talk, comedy). After studies in theatre, film and journalism in Mainz and London, he began working in television in 1998 as a commissioning editor in the children’s and youth department of ZDF. He then worked as a programme consultant to ZDFs chief content officer before moving to the channel’s entertainment department, where he was responsible for developing and producing various primetime shows and factual entertainment programmes for ZDF and the channels various digital platforms. He developed together with Warner Bros. the successful daily format “Bares für Rares” for ZDF, which is currently selling to various international territories (“The Bidding Room”, BBC / ”Affaire Conclue”, France2). Haas has already led numerous lectures and seminars, including for the Grimme Academy, the Goethe Institute, and the International Film School Cologne (IFS).

Joe Mace
Commissioning editor
Mace is responsible for amongst others, Masked Singer, Masked Dancer, Beat The Chasers, The John Bishop Show and Epic Gameshow. He previously worked as head of development for ITV and BBC studios and as a producer for Endemol and CBBC.

Clare Sillery
Head of commissioning, documentaries
Sillery is responsible for commissioning documentaries for BBC television channels and iPlayer. She oversees a huge range of output from high impact singles such as The Real Mo Farah, 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room and Our Falklands War to acclaimed series such as Uprising, House of Maxwell and Freddie’s Field of Dreams. Other Highlights include returning series like Ambulance, Murder 24/7 and Forensics: The Real CSI and BBC Three hits such as Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make Up Star, High: Confessions of an Ibiza Drug Mule as well as films made by new directors on the Documentary Directors’ Initiative. Sillery was previously a commissioning editor in documentaries responsible for returning series such as Real Marigold Hotel and Real Marigold on Tour and award winning single films like Simon’s Choice; How to Die on BBC Two and the Bafta winning factual drama Damilola, our Loved Boy for BBC One. Before joining BBC commissioning she was an executive producer on a diverse range of output from Bafta-winning Life And Death Row to RTS-winning Secret Life Of The National Grid.

Axel Arnö
Head of documentary and science
Arnö has been commissioning editor at Sveriges Television (SVT) since 1998. He was previously a newspaper reporter, working in news, feature and current affairs. Since his move to national television, Arnö has been reporter, editor and editorial executive. After a short break for music studies in London, Arnö was appointed as the managing editor of SVT: a flagship current affairs magazine Striptease. Later he created and managed the investigative documentary strand Dokument Inifrån. Arnö was recently appointed head of documentary and science at SVT. Before that, he was a commission editor at SVT’s documentary department, dealing mainly with international current affairs, special series and creative documentaries. He has commissioned numerous award-winning international coproductions.
