Sameer Nair
CEO
Applause Entertainment
Nair joined the Star Network in 1994 at the cusp of the satellite TV revolution. Over a 12-year career at Star, he went on to handle a variety of creative and business portfolios and became the chief executive officer in 2006. He was responsible for bringing some of the most loved shows on TV such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Koffee with Karan, The Great Indian Comedy Show and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, among others. However, it was Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire) that redefined prime time reality shows and celebrity hosts. Currently CEO at Applause Entertainment – a venture of the Aditya Birla Group, he continues to bring breakthrough shows to the audiences, his most recent being Tanaav, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Undekhi, Hostages, Criminal Justice – Adhura Sach, and Mithya among others. Amongst the past few releases, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story on SonyLIV went on to becoming the highest rated drama series in 2020 with path breaking records and awards. Rudra: The Edge of Darkness became the highest viewed Disney+Hotstar Originals in March 2022 and Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach (season 3) shot to the top in its finale week becoming the number 1 original show on Disney+Hotstar in October 2022. With a robust pipeline in development including an ambitious biopic series on Mahatma Gandhi, a global animation series based on ACK’s Mahabharata and an exciting movie slate, Applause and Nair have much to look forward to the future.
