Books to TV brings publishers to Content London

Publishers, authors and talent scouts will provide a compelling ‘Books To TV’ morning block on Thursday November 29, as Content London pushes further into the world of publishing to connect the best IP with TV.

TIER 4 tickets are about to sell out. To book your place CLICK HERE.

From self-publishing pioneers Wattpad, to authors, agents and production companies, we examine the changing shape of the relationship between story IP and TV.

As Wattpad continues to expand it’s footprint internationally with partner deals already in place across Hollywood, Europe, South-East Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Levitz, will outline what the platform is doing to grow stories into TV, film and digital content and what the opportunities are for talent and content producers to engage with the storytelling platform.

Also on the agenda, Synchronicity Films, Northbank Talent Management, All3 Media and author Sonia Purnell discuss with Bookomi founder Richard Kilgarriff the changing face of books to screen. In this one hour session we explore what makes book adaptations hit so hard with TV viewers and how authors, producers and agents adapt in the ever increasing competitive space for rights and options to ensure the next big international hits.

As head of Wattpad Studios, Aron Levitz connects the entertainment and publishing industries with new voices and original content on Wattpad. Leveraging data and community insights, Aron works with the industry to co-produce Wattpad stories for film, television, print and digital formats.

Sonia Purnell, author
Sonia is an author, journalist and broadcaster known for her investigative skills and lively writing style. Her first book Just Boris: A Tale of Blond Ambition was longlisted for the Orwell Prize for its insightful and ground breaking portrait of Boris Johnson. Her second book, First Lady: The Life & Warts of Clementine Churchill, tells the astonishing but previously untold story of Clementine Churchill. Her new book A Woman of No Importance (March 2019) is the incredible untold story of Virginia Hall, an American woman with a wooden leg who infiltrated occupied France for the SOE and became the Gestapo’s most wanted allied spy,
which has been optioned for film by JJ Abrams/Paramount and already has Daisy Ridley attached to star as Virginia Hall.

Claire Mundell, founder and creative director, Synchronicity Films
Claire is a BAFTA and RTS award-winning film and television producer and the founder and creative director of Synchronicity Films. She has recently executive produced The Cry, an intense psychological thriller for BBC One starring Jenna Coleman (Dr Who, Victoria). Notable projects on Synchronicity’s slate include The Man Booker 2016 short listed novel, His Bloody Project, The Body by Hanif Kureishi and the 2018 international bestseller The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.

James Carroll, broadcast and brand licensing agent, Northbank Talent Management
James is Northbank Talent Management’s ‘books to broadcast’ agent. He represents clients working for major broadcasters in scripted and non-scripted film and television, original audio, live events and brand endorsements. In the last year he has placed scripted projects with producers including Big Talk, Mammoth Screen, Lionsgate, Ecosse Films, Endemol Shine, Freemantle Media, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Audible. Northbank’s clients include Sunday Times Bestselling author Katerina Diamond, Anna Fargher whose modern classic The Umbrella Mouse is published by Macmillan Children’s in 2019, debut sensation Will Dean who was shortlisted for the Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize 2018 and Liverpool-based thriller writer Mary Torjussen whose latest book The Pact is published by Penguin next year. James joined agenting from the Clinton Foundation in New York and Chicago. His first job in television was as a runner with Lime Pictures.

Hannah Griffiths, head of literary acquisitions, All3Media
Hannah joined All3Media in 2016, in the newly created role of head of literary acquisitions.  She works across all the businesses in the group, scouting for new literary talent, nurturing relationships with publishers and agencies, and advising on rights acquisitions.  Her brief is to bring the best books and writers to the attention of producers across the group.
Hannah has twenty years of experience working in book publishing, most recently as fiction publisher at Faber & Faber.   There, she looked after a list of stellar literary talent and estates including Eimear McBride, Barbara Kingsolver, Max Porter, Rachel Cusk, Kazuo Ishiguro, PD James, William Golding and Stewart Lee as well as overseeing the launch of the crime and thriller list.   Prior to this she was a literary agent at Curtis Brown.

Richard Kilgarriff, editiorial director and founder, Bookomi
A former general manager of Turner Broadcasting Europe, Richard turned his lifelong passion for literature into a service connecting authors to audiences in companies such as Facebook, HSBC, Google and Soho House. As editorial director of Bookomi, every month he identifies the most wanted books for leaders who are readers across a range of industries and writes a regular column for Harper’s Bazaar and Management Today.
