Ostroff: talking to
‘impressive filmmakers’

Conde Nast, publisher of GQ, Vogue, Wired and Vanity Fair, has commissioned the series, including one that promises to be a variation on the reality genre, for its multi-platform service The Scene.

The Scene offers 2,500 original shows and is available via Apple TV, Roku and the website run by the publisher’s TV and video division, Conde Nast Entertainment (CNE).

The shows are being presented by CNE at the NewFronts in New York, the digital equivalent of the Upfronts.

“We’re speaking to some very impressive filmmakers to partner with us on this venture,” Dawn Ostroff, president of CNE, told Reuters. “The virtual reality space will not only allow the viewer to become more engaged, it’ll make them more immersed.”

Producers are increasingly looking to the opportunities presented by virtual reality, with European satcaster Sky investing in California-based Jaunt last year. It has also been testing the technology on viewers with existing shows.

CNE, which plans to produce more than 2,500 videos next year, has been ramping up its video content over the past 12 months and claims its shows attracted 1.8 billion views last year.

It will also unveil comedy The Lonely Island and drama The Tyler Zone at the Newfronts.
