Conan O’Brien shifts to HBO Max

Conan O’Brien’s TBS talkshow ends next June

Conan O’Brien’s long-running late-night TV show on WarnerMedia-owned TBS is coming to an end, with its host getting a weekly series on HBO Max instead.

O’Brien will conclude TBS’s nightly talkshow Conan at the end of its 10th season in June 2021 after a decade on the network. His Conan Without Borders travel specials, meanwhile, will continue on TBS.

WarnerMedia has signed O’Brien up for an as-yet-untitled variety show on HBO Max, its streaming service which launched in the US earlier this year.

“In 1993, Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform.’ I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription,” said O’Brien, who has spent the past 28 years as a late-night talkshow host.

“Conan’s unique brand of energetic, relatable and, at times, absurdist comedy has charmed late-night audiences for nearly three decades. We can’t wait to see what he and the rest of Team Coco will dream up for this brand new variety format each week,” said Casey Bloys, chief content officer at HBO and HBO Max.
