Common, Ample campaign for mayor doc

US producer Ample Entertainment has linked up with Rebecca Halpern Productions and musician and actor Common for a docuseries about the 2019 mayoral election in Chicago.

Common

Common, who is from the US city, will work on the as-yet-untitled programme through his Freedom Road Productions outfit, with the show set around the forthcoming political battle.

The companies will pitch the series to premium cable networks and streaming platforms this week.

Chicagoans could make history next year by electing their first black female mayor, their first openly gay mayor, or their first Latino mayor, with a diverse field of candidates emerging for the position.

Executive producers will include Common, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone for Freedom Road Productions; Ari Mark and Phil Lott for Ample Entertainment; Halpern and Michael Masters for Rebecca Halpern Productions; and Susan Cronin.

Ample is behind shows such as Cold Case Files and Cooper’s Treasure, with the prodco also producing a second season of Murder in the Heartland for Discovery ID.
