Comedy Central’s Alternatino moves to Quibi

Recently launched shortform mobile video platform Quibi has picked up sketch series Alternatino, which previously aired on Comedy Central.

From series creator, writer and star Arturo Castro (Broad City; Narcos) and Comedy Central Productions, the first season of Alternatino debuted on Comedy Central last year.

The series features a range of comedy sketches rooted in Guatemala-born Arturo’s personal experience.

Quibi launched in the US, Canada, UK and Germany last month but has so far failed to reach the number of subscribers hoped for. It has been downloaded 3.5 million times, with 1.3 million active users.

Former Walt Disney Studios head Jeffrey Katzenberg, who co-founded Quibi with CEO Meg Whitman, yesterday blamed the underwhelming consumer response entirely on the coronavirus pandemic.
