Comedy Central promotes exec duo

Viacom-owned US pay TV channel Comedy Central has promoted a pair of its executives to co-heads of original content.

Jonas Larsen will now spearhead unscripted, stand-up, live events and audio for the channel, while Sarah Babineau will oversee all scripted content including narrative, sketch, animation and Comedy Central-branded feature films.

Together, they will play a key role in the development of the network’s newly formed studio Comedy Central Productions, launched in May.

Larsen and Babineau have co-managed Comedy Central’s talent and development teams since 2017.

Larsen joined the company in 2010 as VP of specials, before being promoted to senior VP of talent and specials. He became executive VP and co-head of talent and development in 2017. While at the network, Larsen has overseen scripted series including Corporate and upcoming show Robbie, as well as new late-night programme Lights Out with David Spade.

Babineau joined Comedy Central in 2014 as VP of original programming and development on the east coast and was a key player in the launch of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Since her promotion to executive VP and co-head of talent and development in 2017, she has overseen all east coast-based franchises, including The Other Two and upcoming series Awkwafina.

“Through their incredible eye for talent and innate ability to develop the right project for the right platform, Sarah and Jonas have helped build the Comedy Central brand into the strongest position it has ever been,” said Kent Alterman, president of Comedy Central.
