Comedy Central Int’l preps shortform

The international arm of US network Comedy Central is expanding its digital slate by greenlighting six shortform comedy originals showcasing up-and-coming talent.

Josh Pieters

The Comedy Central International originals are being made exclusively for Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, the Comedy Central Play app and web. The slate comprises four new originals, a pilot order and returning series Josh Investigates, which drew four million views in its first season.

Modern Horror Stories is a series of spoof, satire and parody sketches, lampooning present-day problems, from the team behind the Comic Relief Originals series. It is produced by Jon Aird, Daniel Audritt and Kat Butterfield for social platforms including Facebook and YouTube.

In Sofie’s Sex Stories (8×5’), produced by Scottish firm The Comedy Unit, comedian Sofie Hagen shares tales of sexual encounters with other comedy performers through a variety of media, including puppetry and animation.

What I Wish I’d Said gathers comedians together to re-live shameful moments but gives them the opportunity to reply with the perfect choice of words that they didn’t use at the time.

The 6×5’ series will air on Comedy Central International social platforms and the web and is produced by Emerald Paston, development producer for the Viacom-owned company.

The last of the new original shows is Fin Taylor Plays Bullshit Bingo, a politically driven gameshow where comedian Taylor investigates some of the big issues of today, from Brexit to clean eaters, interviewing individuals from both sides off the debate.

Produced and directed by Comedy Central International, the 6×5’ series will air on social platforms and the web.

Shortform pilot Made Up News, produced by Red Arrow Studios-owned Studio 71, features news anchors, correspondents and other guests unpicking the biggest headlines.

In returning series Josh Investigates (6×5’), South African YouTube star Josh Pieters explores the most pressing topics of the day, such as feminism, artificial intelligence and whether anyone is really interested in politics.

The announcement is another indication of Comedy Central International’s investment in shortform content and follows last year’s greenlighting of digital shorts including the first season of Josh Investigates.
