Comarex, Onza form Spanish JV

MIPCOM: Mexican distributor Comarex has unveiled a new Spanish joint venture with transmedia firm Onza Partners here in Cannes, and extended its output deal with Belgium’s Studio 100 Media.

The JV will see the Mexican outfit and Spain’s Onza Partners form Comarex España, which will produce a catalogue of Comarex formats and develop original content for production in Spain.

Onza’s main partners are Globomedia founder Jose Maria Irisarri and Gonzalo Sagardia, who was international director at 7yAccion.

Irisarri said the fledgling JV would “leverage Comarex’s in-depth understanding, professional capabilities, expertise and create new opportunities and great programs for both the Spanish and international market.”

Meanwhile, Comarex has extended its exclusive distribution deal for Studio 100’s entire catalogue within the TV and home entertainment sectors in Latin America, as well non-exclusive rights for the Spanish-speaking US.

The three-year extension agreement means shows such as CGI series Maya The Bee and preschool shows including Zigby and Bumba will remain on Comarex’s books.

Yesterday the distributor signed a deal with Mexican educational network Canal Once to represent some of its drama and documentary series internationally. The firm also holds exclusive distribution rights to content from Mexican media giant TV Azteca.
