Colombia’s RCN names president

RCN Televisión has appointed a successor to its long-serving president, who has taken up a new role with the Colombian broadcaster’s parent company.

Gabriel Reyes Copello

Gabriel Reyes Copello, who joined RCN in April 1996 and has been president since 1999, has been named VP of corporate affairs at Ardila Lülle Organization.

José Roberto Arango, an economist who advised Álvaro Uribe during his tenure as Colombian president and is a former president of Bogotá-based soccer team Millonarios FC, has been appointed as his successor.

During Copello’s 22 years with RCN, the broadcaster has produced telenovelas such as Yo Soy Betty La Fea, which was remade as Ugly Betty in the US, and launched channels such as Nuestra Tele, NTN 24 and an international version of RCN.

RCN linked up with Fox Networks Group, formerly known as Fox International Channels, in 2012 to launch Spanish-language TV network MundoFox. The joint venture ended in 2015 with the US Hispanic channel relaunched by RCN as MundoMax. It ceased broadcasting in 2016.
