CNN picks up Ronstadt doc

US newscaster CNN has picked up a documentary about the life of musician Linda Ronstadt and will debut it on New Years’ Day.

Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice tells the story of the musician’s celebrated five-decade career and is narrated by the singer herself.

Produced by PCH Films and Telling Pictures, the feature documentary is directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. James Keach serves as producer.

Ronstandt, who has not sung publicly since 2009, invited the producers to film her in Mexico and contributed archival footage and photos to the documentary.

“Rob and Jeffrey have crafted a film that soulfully captures how Linda Ronstadt broke the mould for female artists, all while remaining true to herself,” said Courtney Sexton, senior VP for CNN Films.
