CineGroupe's Galidor set for toytown

Canada's CinéGroupe has inked deals with The Lego Company and United Media to tie up worldwide licensing and merchandising rights for Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension, a new live-action/cgi sci-fi TV series.

US licensing and syndication firm United Media has signed on to represent the property in the US and Canada, and Denmark-based Lego has picked up international rights for the master toy and software licences.

The 26×26' series was inspired by web characters created by writer-creator-producer Tom Lynch, and it combines live-action with cgi animation, 3D backgrounds and a host of special effects.

It's being shot and created in Cinégroupe’s hometown of Montreal, and will air in the US Saturdays on Fox Kids Network and on YTV in Canada in February 2002.

The series follows the adventures of an average 15-year-old whose teenage existence turns upside down when he embarks on a mythical quest to new worlds inhabited by a host of mystical creatures.

Jacques Pettigrew, President and ceo of CinéGroupe calls it {a stunning blend of reality and fantasy that tells a stirring tale about coming-of-age, discovering one's heritage, and experiencing the greatest adventure of all-living{.

CinéGroupe and Columbia TriStar Television International are co-distributing the programme for worldwide sales.
