Cineflix taps Newen exec for scripted

Canada-based production and distribution company Cineflix Media has appointed a Newen Group exec to a senior scripted position.

Julien Leroux

Julien Leroux has joined the Toronto-headquartered firm as senior VP of global scripted coproductions, a newly created role that will see him lead the company’s coproduction efforts.

Based in London, Leroux will also work closely with Cineflix’s distribution subsidiary, Cineflix Rights, to acquire scripted content for distribution to all media platforms.

Leroux, who joins at the end of this month, was most recently executive VP of content development and sales at the UK branch of French media giant Newen Group.

He was previously deputy MD of international sales, acquisitions and marketing at Newen’s sales arm, Newen Distribution. Prior to that, he was VP of international sales and acquisitions at France’s AB International Distribution.

Peter Emerson, president of Cineflix Media, said he was looking forward to Leroux expanding the company’s creative partnerships with producers and broadcasters.

Leroux added: “The global demand for quality drama has never been higher. This is an amazing opportunity to create ambitious partnerships with third-party producers and talent.”

Leroux’s appointment comes weeks after Cineflix Rights secured a first-look partnership with UK factual specialist Talesmith.

Cineflix said it would make a significant investment in Talesmith’s development and would help finance projects for the UK and international markets. Additionally, the agreement includes the option to coproduce more content with Cineflix Media’s in-house production teams in North America.
