Cinedigm preps Bright’s future

US distributor Cinedigm is creating a multi-platform channel offering acquired programming and original shows after forging a partnership with Bright Educational Media.

The channel, dubbed Bright, will launch this year as a linear feed and a VoD network, offering edutainment programming for preschool and primary school children and their families. It is the latest OTT move by Cinedigm, which revealed plans to launch a separate channel with TV4 Entertainment this week.

Cinedigm and Bright Educational Media will launch, operate, market and maintain Bright, which will air live-action, learning and educational programming. Shows will be taken from Cinedigm’s film and TV library, as well as from outside producers.

Originals being prepared for launch include Hooked on Science, which encourages kids to perform simple experiments, healthy eating show Cook Time with Remmi and interactive series Spaghetti Eddie.

Chris McGurk, chairman and CEO of Cinedigm, said the channel was part of the company’s plan to provide more OTT viewing options to viewers. “Audiences have seen the digital light, and the more unique partnerships and channels we can create, the better able Cinedigm is to serve this dramatically expanding market,” he said.

Cinedigm already operates Docurama, a channel dedicated to documentaries, and is preparing CONtv, a Comic Con-themed channel in partnership with Wizard World, and family-focused Dove Movie Channel to launch later this year.

Bright Educational Media was cofounded by its CEO Doug Jost, a founding partner of MAVTV (fka Mav’rick Entertainment Network), and president Patrick Jacobs, who was previously VP of sales and marketing at MAVTV and an account director at Showtime.
