Church joined Endemol’s UK label Initial in 1992, rising up the ranks to become the group’s head of legal and business affairs, commercial director and chief operating officer.

He was appointed CEO of Endemol UK in 2012 and took an additional international role as chair of the group commercial board in 2013. He was promoted to his current position in January with Endemol UK COO Richard Johnson promoted to Endemol Shine UK CEO at the same time.

The moves followed last year’s merger of Endemol, Shine Group and Core Media.

Church becomes the latest senior exec to leave the Endemol UK business following chief creative officer David Flynn in April.

His departure concludes his role in bringing together areas of the business including the formation this week of the ‘commercial partnerships team’, as well working with UK chief Johnston in uniting other Endemol and Shine businesses locally.

Church has also played a central role in launching the company’s digital channels network Endemol Beyond.

“I think the time will be right later this year for me to put my mind to something new, but I know I’m leaving our commercial, digital and UK teams in the best possible hands,” he said of his departure.

ESG president Tim Hincks added: “It’s hard to overstate Lucas’s contribution to the business over years of transformational change and growth. He and I have worked together through memorable times, during which he has remained an invaluable colleague and a great friend. When he leaves us later this year he will do so with my very best wishes and wholehearted thanks.”

Last week, C21 revealed that Shine Group’s head of global format acquisitions Dave Clarke was stepping down.

He joins a growing number of senior Shine execs who have left, or are leaving, as as result of the creation of ESG, including: founder and chair Elisabeth Murdoch; CEO Alex Mahon; Kudos CEO Jane Featherstone; Shine America’s Rich Ross; Shine International CEO Nadine Nohr and Shine Nordics boss Gary Carter.

The merger with Endemol and Core was confirmed in October and the staff structure announced at the end of December underneath CEO and former BSkyB MD of content Sophie Turner Laing.
