China switches on Power Couple

A Chinese production company has acquired remake rights to popular Israeli reality format Power Couple.

The format, created by Israeli prodco Abot Hameiri and sold by Dori Media Group, is being remade by Shanghai Viva. Details of the broadcaster are yet to be revealed.

Slated to air this year, the in-production show sees eight couples face extreme challenges that test how well they really know each other.

It first aired on Channel 10 in Israel where it improved the slot’s average ratings by 81%, according to Dori. A second season has already been ordered and the format has since been sold to Rede Record in Brazil and SIC in Portugal.

It was also recently optioned by Shine Nordics and was picked up in South Africa, becoming the first Israeli unscripted format to be sold in the territory, said Dori.
