Channel 5 orders Unstoppable thriller

Viacom-owned UK terrestrial Channel 5 has commissioned a drama thriller from London-based prodco Unstoppable Film & TV.

Four-part series The Drowning tells the story of a mother whose child disappeared eight years ago and her quest to locate him after she believes she has spotted him.

Created by Francesca Brilland and Luke Watson, The Drowning is written by Tim Dynevor and will be directed by Carolina Giametta.

Mary McCarthy is set to produce the series alongside executive producers Noel Clarke, Jason Maza, Alexandra Stone and Catriona Mckenzie. All3Media International will distribute.

Filming will take place in Dublin and the series is set to premiere on Channel 5 later in 2020.

C5 has been pushing further into scripted over the past year or so, starting with Cold Call from Chalkboard TV.

Last year, Ben Frow, C5’s director of programmes, said he was aiming to release between six and eight dramas a year, adding that he was “very willing to be experimental with directors and writers.”
