Frontline: Doctors of War (working title) is being made by London-based ITN Productions (ITNP). It follows former NHS surgeon John Buckels and his anaesthetist for two weeks as they face a humanitarian disaster in a country splintered by 10 years of conflict.

The 1×90’ doc was filmed earlier this year in a Médecins Sans Frontières hospital facility and will air later in 2020 on C5.

Guy Davies, commissioning editor for factual at Channel 5, said: “This documentary offers a unique, graphic and heart-wrenching record of emergency medicine and surgery in a conflict zone.

“Placing these original feature-length documentaries in the heart of the Channel 5 schedule means we can tell important international stories such as this. The team at ITNP has managed to capture the extraordinary experiences of UK medics working in South Sudan in a way that viewers will find they cannot ignore.”

Frontline: Doctors of War has been commissioned by Davies for Channel 5 and is exec produced at ITNP by Ian Rumsey and Nathaniel Lippiett, who also directed the documentary.
