Channel 4 embarks on Royal Tour

A Royal Tour of the 20th Century follows the British royal family

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has acquired historical documentary series A Royal Tour of the 20th Century from distributor DRG.

Originally commissioned by French company Mediawan Thematics, the 4×60’ series is produced by WildBear Entertainment.

DRG has also sold the series to Australian cable provider Foxtel and AMC Networks Central Europe for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

The series follows the British royal family, from the Queen’s first tour of the Commonwealth in 1953/4 to her 1995 visit to South Africa at the end of Apartheid. It also shows Princess Diana’s trip to Angola to raise awareness of landmines and how the royal family has changed with the times, always striving to connect with people worldwide.

“A Royal Tour of the 20th Century presents a wonderful prism through which to view both major world events and the changing nature of the British royal family,” said Elin Thomas, DRG’s exec VP of sales.

“At a time when both royal tours and the role of working royals are under intense scrutiny, this fascinating series offers a unique new look at the royal family at work and provides useful context for their enduring influence on the world stage.”

The series will debut on Monday October 28 on Channel 4 network More4.
