Century’s Evans becomes Raw recruit

All3Media-owned producer Raw has appointed a Century Films exec as its creative director for UK factual programming.

Liesel Evans

Liesel Evans was most recently director of programmes at Century and has worked on Kids on the Edge and Married Behind Bars for Channel 4, as well as B is for Book for BBC4 and ITV’s Parking Wars.

Dimitri Doganis, Raw’s founder, said Evans’ “commitment to intelligent and thought-provoking programmes, combined with a finely tuned sense of what will appeal to a wide audience, is obvious in all she does.

“We see high-end factual productions in the UK as a massively important part of our strategy going forward and Liesel is the perfect person to spearhead that effort.”

Evans added that joining Raw was “an irresistible next step for me. The company is audacious and diverse in its output whilst keeping quality and documentary storytelling at its heart.”

Her appointment comes on the back of a raft of UK factual commissions for Raw, including Ikea documentary Flatpack: The World’s Biggest Furniture Store and Abortion: What Britain Really Thinks for BBC2.

Last week, the company promoted Race to the White House producer Louise Norman to the role of head of US documentaries and senior VP of special projects.

Raw’s slate includes Kennedys: An American Dynasty (working title) for CNN in the US, David Koresh and the Siege of Waco (wt) for A&E Networks and Discovery’s reality series Gold Rush.

Earlier this year All3 acquired Raw, along with fellow UK prodco Betty, from its parent Discovery Communications.
