CCTV makes Upgrade

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has commissioned a local version of a gameshow from Israeli format distributor Armoza Formats.

Upgrade sees a celebrity offer to replace a family’s belongings with better items by asking a series of questions. If they answer incorrectly, however, the family risks losing the belongings they own.

The show, which has already sold into 12 territories, including Norway, Russia, Denmark and Canada, is slated for broadcast in China in October.

Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, said: “The combination of a feelgood family show, with a unique twist, and easy production has proved to be a winning formula.”

The deal is Armoza’s second recent commission in China, following its co-development agreement with Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation for celebrity entertainment format I Can Do That.
