CBS signs on for Nelvana's Pelswick

US network CBS has picked up Nelvana's irreverent toon series John Callahan's Pelswick, with the show due to air as part of the new Nick on CBS Saturday morning kids' block.

Created by nationally syndicated cartoonist and author John Callahan, the series follows the trials and tribulations of a 13-year-old expert in the art of trouble-making, who tears around the streets in his wheelchair like a champion skateboarder.

{The presentation of a wheelchair-bound boy in a realistic environment was a vision that John Callahan realised with extraordinary success,{ said Toper Taylor, president of Nelvana.

{The series is not only important historically, but downright hysterical. The fact that Pelswick continues to remain a staple on Nickelodeon as the series makes its broadcast network debut is a testimony to the uniqueness and popularity of the programme.{

Another boon for the series is the recent addition of American actor David Arquette, who lends his voice to the role of Mr Jimmy, Pelswick’s advisor, mentor and sounding board – and a character who can only be seen by Pelswick himself.
