CBS revamps Mondays, Thursdays

UPFRONTS: US broadcast network CBS has revealed its fall schedule, with new drama and comedy series for Monday nights and a revamped Thursday primetime featuring three new shows.

Monday nights on CBS will start, as they did in 2018, with comedy The Neighborhood at 20.00, providing a launch pad for Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory)’s new comedy Bob Hearts Abishola at 20.30. Courthouse drama Al Rise will then get its bow at 21.00 before Bull returns at 22.00.

There are big changes on Thursday, too, with Young Sheldon moving forward into the slot currently occupied by the show from which it is spun off, The Big Bang Theory, which comes to an end with its 12th season finale at 20.00 tomorrow. That creates space at 20.30 for comedy newcomer The Unicorn, starring Walton Goggins (Vice Principals).

Mom sticks at 21.00 but there’s another debutant at 21.30 in the form of comedy Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond). Psychological mystery drama Evil, from producers Michelle and Robert King (The Good Wife), will debut at 22.00.

There are few changes elsewhere for the primetime ratings leader, although SWAT is moving to 22.00 on Wednesdays after the third season of Seal Team. A shake-up of Friday sees Hawaii Five-0 moving to 20.00 to lead into fellow Hawaii-set show Magnum PI at 21.00. A 10th season of Blue Bloods starts at 22.00.

Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday remain untouched, with other new dramas FBI: Most Wanted, from Dick Wolf (Law & Order), and Tommy, starring The Sopranos’ Edie Falco, held back for midseason premieres. Sitcom Broke will also have to wait for its first airing, as will renewed series Big Brother, Criminal Minds, MacGyver, Man With a Plan, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.
