CBS All Access preps Isla Fisher comedy

US streamer CBS All Access has ordered original dark comedy series Guilty Party starring Isla Fisher as a discredited journalist.

Isla Fisher

The half-hour series is being produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Funny Or Die and Mosaic Entertainment. It is written by Rebecca Addelman with Trent O’Donnell directing.

Fisher (Arrested Development) plays a journalist desperate to salvage her career by latching on to the story of a mother sentenced to life in prison for murdering her husband.

In trying to uncover the truth, the journalist contends with gun-smugglers, clickbait culture, the doldrums of marriage and her own tarnished past.

Fisher, Addelman and O’Donnell will also exec produce alongside Sam Hansen, Jimmy Miller, Joe Farrell, Jim Ziegler, Mike Farah and co-executive producer Joe Hardesty.

Addelman said: “Guilty Party is a genre-bending show that tackles contemporary issues – the prison system, the death of print journalism and pervasive gun culture, to name a few. But it has, at its core, smart, funny, ambitious and deeply complicated female characters. My hope is that it gives audiences a fresh take on the genre.”

Guilty Party joins CBS All Access’s growing slate of original series, which includes The Good Fight, The Twilight Zone, Why Women Kill, No Activity and Interrogation.

The BVoD streamer is also adding upcoming originals The Stand, Tooning out the News, The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Harper House and The Untitled Richard Linklater Project to its slate.
