CONTENT STRATEGIES: Uncovering programming opportunities worldwide

CBC, Yowza link on preschool series

Toronto toon house Yowza Animation is developing a preschool series based on the Canadian children’s magazine Chirp for public broadcaster CBC.

The project will take its cues from the publication, which is aimed at three- to six-year-olds and features puzzles and light educational material. It is the youngest-skewing of three Canuck magazines – followed by Chickadee and Owl –published by the Owlkids division of Bayard Canada.

“Chirp magazine is an important entry for young children into reading, learning and interactive fun. We strongly believe in the value of the brand,” said Yowza head of business development Heather Walker.

The animation shop is working on the project with Kim Wilson, creative head of children’s programming at CBC. The digital portion of the project will include apps and games. Yowza has recently been pushing to expand beyond its core service work with more original productions.
