CBC to stream Normal People

Normal People will be added to CBC’s VoD service Gem

Canadian public broadcaster the CBC has acquired local rights to Normal People, the acclaimed coming-of-age drama from the BBC and Hulu.

The CBC picked up the 12×30’ series, which is adapted from Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel, to launch on its VoD service Gem. The show will begin streaming on May 27, with two new episodes premiering each Wednesday.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Room) and Hetti McDonald (Howard’s End), the relationship drama stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (War of the Worlds, Cold Feet) and Paul Mescal, tracking their romance over the course of their lives.

Normal People is executive produced by Ed Guiney (The Favourite, Room), Andrew Lowe (The Favourite, The Lobster), Emma Norton (Rosie, A Date for Mad Mary) and Anna Ferguson (No Offense, Prisoners’ Wives) for Element Pictures.

Rooney and Abrahamson also serve as exec producers. Endeavor Content handles international sales.
