Cartoon Saloon boosts development team

Oscar-nominated Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon has hired the co-founder of recently shuttered Dublin-based prodco Mooshku.

Jason Tammemägi has joined the Puffin Rock firm as a producer and will report to its head of development and CEO, Paul Young, C21 can confirm.

Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon is behind Oscar-nominated features The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner, while it also made the soon-to-launch Wolfwalkers for Apple TV+.

Tammemägi will work across the company’s TV development slate with Nuria Blanco, allowing Young to focus more attention on its feature film slate and the TV series projects he is already looking after.

Ailbhe McCabe

He will work with another recent hire at Cartoon Saloon, Ailbhe McCabe, who has joined as a development producer, working across development for TV and feature films.

Prior to joining Cartoon Saloon, McCabe worked for Channel 5’s Milkshake for over six years and Irish animation studio Jam Media for almost three years.

Tammemägi, meanwhile, co-founded Mooshku in 2014 with Meabh Tammemagi, who is now a producer at Brown Bag Films in Dublin after Mooshku closed earlier this year.

Tot Cop, Planet Cosmo and Fluffy Gardens creator Jason Tammemägi has 25 years’ experience in children’s media and has led creative on more than 300 episodes of children’s television. He was also the creative director at Geronimo Productions for 13 years.
