Carey is joining the firm, launched by drama producer Laurence Bowen in 2016, as it continues to expand its scripted slate.

Carey has been in the business for 25 years and his recent credits include BBC1’s psychological thriller Apple Tree Yard with Kudos and Channel 4’s miniseries Run, as well as Les Misérables with Lookout Point.

Prior to this, he set up and ran independent production company The Welded Tandem Picture Co, which produced Douglas Adam’s Dirk Gently for the BBC and This is Jinsy for UK satcaster Sky.

CEO Bowen (The Eichmann Show, Delhi Crime, Suburban Shootout) said: “Chris’s production experience, talent relationships and amazing taste make him such an exciting, good person to be working with.

“He’s delivered many dramas I personally love, so I hope we can go on to deliver many more together. We’re already working with some of the most talented writers in the UK on some amazing projects, so the timing couldn’t be better.”

Dancing Ledge, which is 25%-owned by Fremantle, recently developed Netflix Original Delhi Crime, coproduced The New Pope starring Jude Law and John Malkovich, and produced Porters for Dave/UKTV.

It is currently developing projects with Paulo Coelho, Mark Gatiss, Faith Soloway, Nathaniel Martello White, Joe Barton and Lauren Sequeira, and recently announced a new partnership with author Lee Child. Lee Child: True Crime is a drama series based on real-life stories of people risking their lives in the pursuit of justice.
