Care Bears get YouTube series

Care Bears: Unlock the Magic

Cloudco Entertainment in the US has linked with kids’ digital media company Moonbug on a YouTube-first show featuring the Care Bears characters and original pop music.

Care Bears owner Cloudco and Moonbug have partnered to produce 26-episode 2D animated series Unlock the Music, which accompanies the Care Bears: Unlock the Magic TV series.

It comes as part of a deal for Moonbug to manage the Care Bears YouTube channel, starting immediately, on behalf of Cloudco (fka American Greetings Entertainment).

Moonbug co-owns Unlock the Music and is responsible for its global distribution. It also handles the YouTube distribution of the Care Bears back catalogue, which goes back nearly 40 years.

Moonbug recently announced it had raised an additional US$120m in capital and acquired two YouTube kids’ channel juggernauts: CoComelon and Blippi.

This followed the LA- and London-based firm bringing in US$145m in investment last fall in order to expand its portfolio of content.

Moonbug’s other core brands include Little Baby Bum and a slate of products recently launched in conjunction with master toy partner MGA/Little Tikes.

“With our extensive platform and audience insights, and a lot of new and fun music videos that we think are creatively appealing to all audiences, we’re confident that The Care Bears will be climbing to the top of the charts,” said Dan’l Hewitt, head of global business at Moonbug

The Care Bears: Unlock the Magic TV series is now airing on broadcasters including Boomerang and Cartoon Network in the US, Tiny Pop in the UK, Nickelodeon/Noggin in Latin America and Tiji in France.
