Canuck nets return to 16 Hudson

Animated preschool series 16 Hudson embraces diversity

Canadian broadcasters TVO Kids, Knowledge Kids and CBC Radio Canada have commissioned a second season of animated preschool series 16 Hudson.

The Big Bad Boo Studios production will include a 39×7’ series alongside accompanying digital media components.

The series claims to be the first of its kind to include main characters from diverse backgrounds, including characters who are Iranian, Chinese and half-Indian and half-Irish, as well as another who has two fathers.

Season one of the show followed four sets of neighbours living in the same apartment block as they embrace each other’s similarities and differences while celebrating cultural holidays like Chinese New Year, Norooz and Diwali together.

Additional partners on the new episodes include Canadian French-language free-to-air television network ICI TV and the Shaw Rocket Fund.

Big Bad Boo Studios will be at Kidscreen Summit in Miami next month to distribute the show worldwide, while discussions with “several major channels” for the show are ongoing, according to the producer.
