Canal+ picks up Patria in France

Patria is based on the novel by Fernando Aramburu

French pay TV broadcaster Canal+ has picked up HBO Europe’s forthcoming drama series Patria.

Premiering next month, Patria tells the story of the Spanish Basque country through the eyes of two families divided by violence and political struggle over the course of three decades.

It was created and written by Aitor Gabilondo and is based on the novel of the same name by Fernando Aramburu. Alea Media produced the series for HBO Europe, with participation from HBO Latin America.

Patria will be made available in HBO Europe’s 21 territories on September 27, at the same time as its launch in more than 40 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean on HBO and HBO Go. In the US, Patria will be available on HBO and HBO Max from the same date, while premiering on HBO Latino on September 30.

HBO Europe is handling international sales of the series.
