French pay TV broadcaster Canal+ has picked up Hulu event series thriller 11.22.63, which hails from executive producers JJ Abrams, Stephen King and Bridget Carpenter.

Based on King’s best-selling 2011 novel, the nine-hour series hails from Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) directs and exec produces the two-hour series premiere. The drama is also executive produced by Abrams, King, Carpenter and Bryan Burk.

The drama follows a high school teacher who wants to make a difference and do something meaningful. Encouraged by his ailing friend, he journeys back in time in an attempt to prevent the assassination of President John F Kennedy.

In January, Fox Networks Europe picked up the series, which premiered on US video streamer Hulu on February 15.

In related news, Canal+ has also acquired Hulu’s comedy Casual and UK broadcaster Channel 4’s series Catastrophe. Both will air this summer.
