Canada’s Boomerang thrown to Sweden

Swedish prodco Art & Bob is to adapt Canadian comedy series Boomerang, following a deal with Quebecor Content and Canadian producer and distributor Encore International.

The original Canadian version of Boomerang

The rom-com features a debt-ridden couple who are forced to move back into their parents’ basement. The original is broadcast on the French-Canadian TVA network, produced by Encore Television alongside Quebecor Content.

Art & Bob will make a 10×30’ version which is set to broadcast across Scandinavian territories in spring of 2020. Filming will start on October 7. The broadcaster hasn’t yet been disclosed. The agreement marks the first international adaptation of the series.

Art & Bob exec producer, Anette Brantin, said: “Not many comedy series can be adapted successfully outside of their home countries, but Boomerang is one of them. The characters are smart and funny, the scripts are strong, and we have a lot of episodes to work with, which means we, along with our broadcaster, can create a long-running adapted series.”

Chrystine Girard, head of international distribution at Encore International, added: “We’re confident this will open doors to other adaptations around the world.”
