Calon TV gets rights back

UK-based indie Calon TV has retrieved distribution rights to its catalogue of kids’ animation from Welsh network S4C and has appointed a head of international sales to handle it.

Studio manager Lynne Stockford will take charge of international sales following the reversion of the distribution rights from S4C International.

The list of programmes includes kids TV hits such as Hana’s Helpline, which is currently screened on Five; Welsh language classic Sali Mali; ’80s favourite Wil Cwac Cwac, Under Milk Wood and the feature film The Princess and the Goblin.

Stockford, who worked as studio manager on Sali Mali and Under Milk Wood, has lined up a series of meetings with international buyers at MipTV next week.

MD Robin Lyons said: “The company strategy is to take more direct control over distribution. With the reversion of the rights, we want to exploit the licensing opportunities as part of our IP strategy.”

Last Mip Jr, C21 revealed that Welsh actress Ruth Jones (Gavin and Stacey) is onboard to voice a new stop-frame preschool series from indie Calon TV, which has been commissioned by S4C, Five and MG Alba entitled Igam Ogam.
