Cake picks up Pukeko’s Kiddets

Kiddets is a new addition to The WotWots franchise

Cake in the UK has partnered with Kiwi indie Pukeko Pictures to launch Kiddets, a sister series to preschool animated show The WotWots.

Kiddets, which follows the adventures of five space cadets in training, adds 52 new episodes to The WotWots franchise and is a coproduction from Pukeko Pictures and Guangdong Huawen Century Animation Company.

Under the deal, children’s entertainment specialist Cake will hold worldwide distribution rights to the show, excluding Australia, New Zealand and greater China.

The arrangement also includes the North American and European rights to season two of The WotWots (78×11’), Pukeko’s original series, which has aired in more than 100 countries.

Pukeko’s link-up with Huawen Century is the first official children’s television coproduction between New Zealand and China.

“It is essential to find visionary partners to work with and we have forged a deep relationship with our Chinese colleagues that gives us an incredibly strong springboard to launch this dynamic and engaging show globally,” said Richard Taylor, co-owner of Pukeko Pictures.

The announcement follows the news that Cake is launching fellow preschool animation Pablo at Mipcom. The 52×11’ series features a little boy whose imaginative drawings come to life.
