C5’s Wanda ready to wander

Wanda and the Alien, the Random House and Komixx preschool toon set to debut on Channel 5 in the UK this year, has secured an international distributor.

UK company Cake has secured global distribution rights to the 52×10′ 2D CGI toon, which is being produced by Random House Children’s Screen Entertainment (RHCSE).

The latter is a joint venture set up by Random House Children’s Publishers and cartoon producer Komixx Entertainment (Toby’s Travelling Circus) in 2009. The toon was the first commission for the UK publisher.

The series, which follows a little girl rabbit who meets an alien, has been in development with UK indie Wish Films (The Tweenies) since last year.

It was originally conceived as a collection of children’s books by writer and illustrator Sue Hendra. The first episode is expected to air on Milkshake! in the latter half of this year.
