C5, Tarrant follow Holocaust Railways

Whitworth Media’s Hitler’s Holocaust Railways

Viacom-owned UK terrestrial Channel 5 has ordered a 90-minute documentary special on the role played by the railways in the Holocaust of the Second World War.

Hitler’s Holocaust Railways (1×90’) with Chris Tarrant is being coproduced by UK indie Whitworth Media and Motion Content Group, who have previously coproduced four seasons of Extreme Railways for C5 fronted by the former Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host.

Travelling across three countries, Tarrant will explore the period from the first anti-Jewish laws announced at the Nuremberg rallies and the Nazis’ quest to build the world’s most powerful railway of war, to the eventual use of that network to transport millions to their deaths.

Chris meets Holocaust survivors as they retrace their wartime journeys, including Helga Weissova, who as a young girl recorded her experiences in the horrifying Terezin Ghetto with drawings and in her diary.

Based in London, Whitworth Media and Motion are also in production with a new series of Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railway Journeys and Whitworth has recently secured its first Channel 4 commission to be announced shortly.
