C5 builds up commissioning team

Viacom-owned UK terrestrial Channel 5 has hired a Vice executive as part of a trio of appointments to its commissioning team.

Dan Louw has joined as commissioning editor along with new commissioning executives Kate Morey and Denise Seneviratne. The new commissioners will report to C5 director of programmes Ben Frow.

Louw was previously head of development and executive producer at Vice Studios, where he worked on programmes including Britain’s Cocaine Epidemic for C5 and sister network 5Star’s forthcoming factual entertainment series Dirty Tricks.

BBC2’s The Satanic Verses: 30 Years On and new gameshow Beat the Internet for UKTV’s comedy network Dave were also part of his Vice slate and he also worked as VP of development for its Viceland channel.

Prior to Vice, Louw was head of development at BBC Documentaries and he has also held roles at prodcos such as Twenty Twenty TV, Dragonfly TV and North One Television.

Morey has worked on myriad shows, most recently as an executive producer at labels Lambent Productions and Spun Gold making series for ITV1 and C5.

She has held roles at various prodcos including Betty, Shine TV, Love Productions and Talkback, working on hit Channel 4 shows One Born Every Minute, Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners and the inaugural series of First Dates.

Documentary, factual and factual entertainment expert Seneviratne has held a range of executive producer and series editor positions, most recently exec producing Paul O’Grady’s Little Heroes for ITV; BBC series Meet The Humans, presented by Michael Mosley; and Sun Sex & Suspicious Parents. She was series editor on C4’s The Secret Life of Brothers & Sisters and C5’s Blinging Up Baby.
