C4 to air Scottish independence comedy

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a comedy about the forthcoming referendum on Scottish independence. Zodiak Media-owned Scottish prodco The Comedy Unit will make the one-off special, which has a working title Scotland in a Day.

A self-shot ‘mockumentary’ comedy, Scotland in a Day is supposedly filmed on the day of the Scottish Independence referendum, and designed to capture a snapshot of a nation on the brink of both triumph and disaster.

Rab Christie, MD of The Comedy Unit, said: “Many of the characters and sketches are themed around the referendum, others are simply going about their business one day in September. Hopefully, it’ll be a celebration of Scottish talent.”

Scotland in a Day is written by Jack Docherty (Spitting Image, The Jack Docherty Show) and contributing writers. The commissioning editor for Channel 4 is Rachel Springett (Toast of London).
