C4 proposes marriage series

UK commercial pubcaster Channel 4 has ordered a series focusing on people whose families oppose their choice of spouse.

Bride & Prejudice (5×60’) was commissioned by C4 acting head of factual entertainment Lucy Leveugle and is being produced by Banijay-owned factual entertainment firm 7Wonder.

The executive producer on the project is Duncan Coates and the series producer is Martin Conway.

Bride & Prejudice, based on an A&E format, tells the stories of six soon-to-be-wed couples as they confront opposition to their marriage from within their own families. Some of the issues tackled relate to race, religion and sexual orientation.

This week, the C4 director of programmes Ian Katz pledged to focus on diversity and difference through the broadcaster’s commissioning.
