C4 to refloat Shipwrecked

Shipwrecked sees two rival islands battle it out

UK commercial pubcaster Channel 4 has ordered a return of reality competition series Shipwrecked for its youth-skewing network E4.

The 15×60’ reboot of the show was commissioned by C4 head of formats Dom Bird and formats commissioning editor Simone Haywood. Shipwrecked debuted in 2000 on C4, with the most recent series airing on E4 in 2011.

The new version is being is executive produced by Neale Simpson and Kate Bates for Fizz, the entertainment arm of RDF Television, and Abigail Adams for Motion Content Group.

Shipwrecked is set on two rival islands, with one occupied by the Sharks and the other by the Tigers. The two tribes battle it out to convince new arrivals to join their island, with the tribe that has the most members at the end of the season winning the competition. The last time the show aired was in 2011.

C4 recently pledged to invest £10m (US$13.5m) in E4 as it aims to increase its focus on younger viewers.
