C4 extends Bake Off, adds Jr version

The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4

Commercially funded UK pubcaster Channel 4 has extended The Great British Bake Off for a further two years and has also commissioned a kids-focused spin-off from the cooking competition.

The 10th season of the Love Productions show, to which C4 took the UK rights in 2016 after the format originally aired on the BBC, will air later this year.

Two further seasons have now been greenlit, extending the show’s run on C4 to 2021. Junior Bake Off, meanwhile, will begin airing later this year as a 15×60 series. Three seasons of the spin-off have been ordered.

C4 director of programmes Ian Katz said: “Over the last two years, The Great British Bake Off has become one of the best-loved programmes on Channel 4, embodying the warmth, mischief and inclusivity for which the channel is known.”

Richard McKerrow, CEO of Love Productions, said: “We are delighted to have extended Bake Off’s stay on Channel 4 after two great years together. We have been hugely encouraged by the audience response and feedback the show has received during its time on Channel 4 and are thrilled to be bringing Junior Bake Off to the Channel.”
