UK commercial broadcaster Channel 4 (C4) has commissioned a 20-part season of game show The Crystal Maze, following last year’s one-off celebrity special.

The revived show (20×60’) will follow the same format as the original 1990s series, with comedian Richard Ayoade taking on the Maze Master previously held by Richard O’Brien.

C4’s head of live and events, Tom Beck, commissioned the new series with head of entertainment Ed Havard.

The new series is being made by Fizz, the UK prodco behind ITV gameshow Tipping Point. The Crystal Maze aired between 1990 and 1995 and at its peak pulled in six million viewers.
