C4 appoints diversity chief

Commercially funded UK public broadcaster Channel 4 has appointed its first head of inclusion and diversity.

Yasir Mirza

Yasir Mirza will work with chief human resources officer Caroline Ross and with teams across the business to help C4 develop a more inclusive and diverse culture.

Mirza, who was head of diversity and inclusion at UK newspaper The Guardian between 2009 and 2015, is an experienced inclusion and diversity leader in the media and has worked with a wide range of organisations around the world.

C4 CEO Alex Mahon said: “Inclusion and diversity is intrinsic to everything we do at C4. We must embody and reflect the contemporary reality of our country and its future, both in our content and within our culture as an organisation.

“Yasir has an exceptional track record of delivering inclusion and diversity strategies for major organisations and I’m thrilled that he’s joining us to drive this vital part of our strategy.”

Mirza, who will join C4 in January, said: “C4 is widely acknowledged as being an innovative leader in diversity and inclusion, so I am beyond thrilled to be taking on this very important role at an exciting time for the channel.”
