C4, AMC give Humans third run

Channel 4 in the UK and US cablenet AMC have renewed their sci-fi drama coproduction Humans for a third season.

The second season of Humans brought Channel 4 3.4 million viewers

Endemol Shine-owned prodco Kudos has been greenlit to start filming an eight-episode third run of the critically acclaimed series this autumn.

The premiere of the second season on Channel 4 drew 3.4 million viewers, making it the biggest drama launch on the channel since the second season of Homeland in 2012.

Set in a parallel present, the series explores what happens when the lines between humans and machines become blurred.

The series is written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley and is based on Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans, created by Lars Lundstrom and produced by Matador Films for SVT.

Derek Wax, Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley will executive produce for Kudos in association with Wild Mercury Productions, Lars Lundstrom and Henrik Widman for Matador Films.

Beth Willis, head of drama at Channel 4, and Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development at AMC, ordered the third run.

The third season was commissioned for Channel 4 by Beth Willis and Simon Maxwell, and Joel Stillerman and Kristin Jones for AMC.
